Double Celebration

Posted on 16 March, 2009

There was a double reason to celebrate at the LMS’s spring colloquium. Firstly, Pirkko Koppinen, who has been a key figure in the Society for over six years, successfully passed her viva the day before the colloquium. Secondly, Miri Rubin’s new book, Mother of God: A History of the Virgin Mary, has been published to rave reviews, with The Guardian labelling it “masterly”, The Independent calling it “a welcome, illuminating and at times disturbing history”, and The Economist describing it as an “enormously ambitious project” which ultimately “succeeds”. Congratulations to them both.

The LMS’s next colloquium will be our annual ‘Postgraduate Presents’ session, where we invite postgraduates from around the country to come and present their work. This session will be on the 25th of April and will be held, as usual, in the Lock-Keeper’s Cottage.
